You want to hire a pro to write your website. You’ve passed the stage where you thought you could do it by yourself, or maybe you did write your website, but you don’t get inquiries or clients.
So, you’re 100% for hiring someone. But, you still don’t know: How much does website copywriting cost?
Each copywriter has different prices because the rates depend on a lot of factors.
Let’s break them down in simple terms.
I’ll also talk about how I price my copywriting services so you’ll see the writing part is just one fraction of the work I do.
What Does Website Copywriting Include?
Obviously, it includes words. But not just any words. It’s words based on a lot of research, thinking, crying and experimenting.
Why? Well, because we copywriters want to make sure those words actually work for your business.
By that I mean:
the words clearly communicate who’s your audience and how your services help them,
they have a tone that reflects both the audience you’re writing for and you as a solopreneur;
they are persuasive enough to make website visitors come back, send you an inquiry about your services, sign up to your course, etc.
It still sounds easy?
Now let me show you all the pre-writing work that makes effective copy possible:
- Understanding your audience – a copywriter need to know the basics: who are your customers? What do they need? What’s stopping them from buying? What frustrates them?
- Getting to know your business – to write great copy, copywriters also need to pin down you as a client. What makes you different? How does your service solve the client’s problem?
- Website audit – If you already have a website, it’s important to see what’s working and what’s not and not to make the same mistakes in the new version of the copy
- Keyword research – people won’t find your website on Google if you don’t use keywords they google when looking for services like yours. That’s why it’s important a copywriter does the keyword research so they can integrate keywords and keyword phrases into the website copy
- Competitors’ website research – you don’t want to copy them, just see what they’re doing great and whether they have content gaps you can fill in with your own content
This stage requires lots of brainstorming, research and communication with the client. Think of it as building a foundation for the website copy. The sturdier the foundation, the better the copy!
What Goes Into Website Copywriting Costs in 2025?
Copywriting rates vary because the writing process is complex, but here are the main things that influence pricing:
1. The Size of Your Website
Obviously, a five-page site will cost less than a 45-page e-commerce shop. But a copywriter worth their salt won’t charge just for the writing part.
Great copy isn’t based so much on the writer’s ability, but on:
-their research skills
-years of experience
-industry knowledge
-ability to simplify and clarify complicated concepts (this skill is sooo overlooked by clients!)
I personally charge €1 200 for a 4-page website. But my pricing includes a lot more than just writing:
✔️a 1:1 session where I get to know you and your business
✔️keyword research
✔️competitor research
✔️a feedback Zoom call or Loom video where I explain all my writing decisions
✔️ocassional email updates
✔️2 rounds of revisions
2. The Copywriter’s Experience
A newbie copywriter will charge less than someone with years of experience. They may be ok with the writing part, but they’ll probably lack the strategical skills, psychological insight, and out-of-the-box thinking an experienced copywriter has. They’ll also probably charge by the hour or per word.
Charging by the quantity is tricky – it implies that the number of hours or words written is a guarantee of quality.
You can get a 5 page website delivered to you in 10 hours, but if it’s full of grammar mistakes, isn’t clear on who the service is for, and doesn’t lead the reader towards booking a call – it’s bad copy.
3. The Complexity of Your Industry
A website for a tiny local business is probably easier (and cheaper) to write than one for a complex tech startup or e-commerce company. If your industry requires lots of research, expect higher fees. You can also hire copywriters who are specialized for your industry.
4. Does the Copywriter Handle SEO
Want your website to rank on Google? SEO copywriting takes extra work—like keyword research and optimizing your site for search engines—which increases the cost.
5. Where Your Copywriter is Based
Copywriters in the U.S. or U.K. tend to charge more due to higher living costs and higher living standards.
I’m based in Europe, so my rates may seem lower compared to USA-based writers – but that means you can get a great deal without compromising on quality.
Great Copy Comes from Knowing What You Want as a Client
A lot of clients hire a copywriter, hoping they’ll read their mind and figure out their brand for them. After all, the writer is the wordsmith and creative ninja, right?
But here’s the thing: copywriting works best when you have a clear idea of what you want.
Before you hire a writer for your (new) website, get back to your strategy:
- What makes my business stand out?
- Who is my ideal customer?
- What action do I want visitors to take on my website?
If you’re still not clear on verbalizing these aspects of your solo business, I can help refine your messaging—but that takes extra time and effort from both of us. Not to mention it affects pricing.
The clearer you are on your messaging, the better (and more effective) your website copy will be.
So, How Much Should You Budget?
I know you’ll hate me for saying this, but I have to. It depends on your goals.
If you want a website that’s not a digital business card but an important part of your marketing strategy and sales funnel, don’t expect to pay less than € 1000 for a 4 to 5 page website. If you want to work with a USA based writer, the minimum is $1,500.
Don’t forget to consider the writer’s way of charging their prices.
Some copywriters charge per word, by the hour or per web page. More experienced or highly-specialized ones may charge per project—because they’re focused on providing these results:
✔️copy that’s crystal clear about what you do and for who
✔️copy optimized for search engines
✔️conversions (the copy is written in a way that leads the reader towards buying or signing up)
