3 Things You Should Never Forget to Update on Your Website

by | Jan 16, 2025

There are people who think: “My website is launched! Yaay! Now I can forget about it and move on to the next thing in my business.”
If you’re one of those, please stop scrolling and find out why that line of thinking is wrong.
First, ignoring your website isn’t fair towards yourself, your business and other people who worked on it – just think about all the time and money that went into it!

Also, just having a website out there isn’t enough for people to find you (gone are the days of easily ranking No. 1 on Google!).

Keeping your website relevant and up-to-date is essential not only for maintaining your professional image but also for driving traffic and converting curious prospects into new clients

Without further ado, here’s a short but sweet list of 3 things you should never forget to update on your website.

If you keep track of them, your website won’t only fully represent your business, but it’ll also be a better tool in bringing in new inquiries.

Your Services and Prices

“”When was the last time you took a good look at your services page, eh?

If you’re looking to scale your solo business, your offers are always evolving.

Whether you’re adding new courses,  pivoting (which is totally ok!), or introducing new packages, your website should reflect those changes.

An outdated service page can leave potential clients scratching their heads or wondering if you’re still offering those services. Or even worse, they can ask to work with you based on the outdated prices while you actually raised them a few times since then.

This one happened to me when I was on a mission to find a web designer. 😣
I contacted a designer thinking their pricing was X, but they said it was Y. “Sorry, we were so busy, we forgot to update our prices and packages.”
So of course I didn’t want to work with them when I found out. It wasn’t only because of the outdated pricing, but also because they came across as unorganized and nonchalant in their replies.

But this isn’t just me. 56% of people say they won’t trust a website that hasn’t been updated recently, and that’s not something you want working against you.

Be sure to regularly check that all the details about your:
-services,
-pricing,
and any seasonal or limited-time offerings are current.

Also, remember to highlight the value of your offer.

Don’t just describe the service: “a 1:1 coaching session for dev seniors”—focus on how you can solve your audience’s problems—”I will cheerlead you on your way to becoming a senior who takes care of themselves and their team members”.

Client testimonials and case studies

According to a study by BrightLocal, 79% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations. Your website should showcase recent, relevant testimonials that show your skills and results way better than just “I successfully worked with 24 clients in 2024”.

If you’ve worked with new clients or received positive feedback since your last update, it’s time to add that to your site. Also, if you had bigger projects, consider adding case studies if you haven’t already. A detailed case study can show potential clients exactly how you helped someone achieve their goals and what the process looked like.

An updated and (don’t forget!) relevant case study page shows your visitors that your services are in demand and real people are getting real results.
BONUS TIP: don’t forget to add a testimonial in your case study.

Your Blog or Resources page

As a solopreneur, you’re likely creating content to help your audience, whether it’s blog posts, videos, or downloadable freebies. If you’re not – please do! But if you don’t have time, I’d love to help you with that part of your website too.

Why it’s important, you ask?
First, it keeps your website fresh, which is important for SEO (search engine optimization). Lord Google loves new, relevant content, and consistently updating your blog can help improve your search rankings.

Also, if you use your own research data, your website can get quality backlinks from other websites in your niche.

Don’t forget, an updated blog or resources page helps you stay connected with your audience. Offering well-formatted tips, sharing insights, or telling personal success/failure stories shows that you’re engaged and ready to offer value.

Plus, it’s a great way to establish authority in your niche. By sharing your expertise, work process, and opinions on the industry, you’re positioning yourself as the go-to expert your potential clients can rely on.

There may be times when you lose motivation and take a rest from posting. But don’t let your blog sit for too long—if you’re not posting consistently, visitors and Google may lose interest or assume you’re no longer active.

There are different opinions out there about how often you should  publish new blog posts. Hubspot recommends new websites publish blog articles 6 to 8 times per month.

Ouch.

If you don’t have the bandwidth to publish that often, you can post new content at least once a month. Just make sure to choose topics your potential clients actually search for. You can use tools like Yoast, or my favorite, Keysearch for keyword research.

So, how often should you update your website with new content?

The answer to this question depends completely on how well do you track changes in your business and can manage updating your website as soon as possible.

But in general, each time you make a change to your offer, get an awesome testimonial or you want to upload a freebie for your audience – try to update your website.
